Indications
Zovirax cream is indicated for the treatment of herpes simplex virus skin infections, including cold sores (herpes simplex type 1) and genital herpes (herpes simplex type 2). It is also used for the prevention of outbreaks in patients with recurrent herpes simplex infections. Acyclovir, its active ingredient, works by inhibiting virus replication by interfering with viral DNA synthesis, which helps reduce the severity and duration of symptoms associated with viral infections.
Composition
Each 1 g of cream contains 50 mg of acyclovir as an active ingredient, in addition to excipients that facilitate its application and skin absorption.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to acyclovir or any component of the formula. Its use is not recommended for skin infections not caused by the herpes simplex virus.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with renal impairment, as a dose adjustment may be required. It is advisable to avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. In case of irritation or allergic reactions, discontinue use and consult a doctor. Its application is not recommended on extensive areas of damaged or burned skin.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date indicated on the package.
