Indications
Vytorin is indicated as an adjunct to diet to reduce levels of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein), non-HDL cholesterol, and triglycerides in adult patients with primary hypercholesterolemia (familial or non-familial) or mixed dyslipidemia. This medication is useful in patients who do not achieve their lipid goals with statins alone. It is also indicated for reducing the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with established coronary artery disease, as well as in those with type 2 diabetes and other cardiovascular risk factors.
Composition
Each Vytorin tablet contains 10 mg of Ezetimibe and 20 mg of Simvastatin. Additionally, it contains excipients such as lactose monohydrate, corn starch, and other inactive components that facilitate the formulation of the medication.
Contraindications
Vytorin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Ezetimibe, Simvastatin, or any of the product's excipients. It should not be administered to patients with active liver disease or persistent elevations in transaminases. It is also contraindicated in pregnant or breastfeeding women, as well as in those receiving treatment with certain antifungals or antibiotics that may increase the risk of myopathy.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of liver disease, muscle problems, or in those who consume large amounts of alcohol. Regular monitoring of liver enzymes is recommended during treatment. Furthermore, the risk of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis should be assessed, especially in patients over 65 years of age, in those with impaired renal function, or who are receiving other medications that may interact with Simvastatin.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius. Keep the product in its original packaging and out of reach of children. Protect from light and moisture.
