Indications
Vaxtifen is indicated for the treatment of mixed dyslipidemias where a reduction in total cholesterol, LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol, and triglyceride levels is required. This medication is used in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia or combined dyslipidemia who do not respond adequately to a low-fat diet. Its use is particularly relevant in patients with elevated cardiovascular risk, as it helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular events, such as myocardial infarctions and strokes. Additionally, it is indicated for the management of dyslipidemias in type 2 diabetic patients, contributing to the control of lipid levels and improving the cardiovascular profile of these patients.
Composition
Each Vaxtifen tablet contains 20 mg of atorvastatin and 160 mg of fenofibrate as active ingredients. Additionally, it contains excipients suitable for tablet formulation.
Contraindications
Vaxtifen is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any component of the formula, in those with active liver disease, including hepatitis and persistent elevation of transaminases. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe renal insufficiency, as well as in pregnant and breastfeeding women.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering Vaxtifen to patients with a history of liver disease, as well as those with risk factors for rhabdomyolysis. Regular monitoring of transaminases and lipid profiles during treatment is recommended. Additionally, renal function should be evaluated periodically, especially in elderly patients or those taking other medications that may affect renal function.
