Indications
Terramycin is indicated in the treatment of bacterial infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to oxytetracycline. It is used in cases of respiratory infections, skin and soft tissue infections, urinary tract infections, and other systemic infections. It is also effective in the treatment of vector-borne diseases, such as Rocky Mountain spotted fever and tularemia. In the veterinary field, it is used for the treatment of infections in animals, although this information is only relevant to professionals in the area.
Composition
Each capsule of Terramycin contains 500 mg of oxytetracycline as active ingredient, in addition to excipients necessary for its formulation.
Contraindications
Terramycin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to oxytetracycline or other antibiotics of the tetracycline class. It should not be administered to pregnant or breastfeeding women, or to children under 8 years of age due to the risk of tooth discoloration and alterations in bone growth.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with a history of liver or kidney disease, as well as those who are using anticoagulants. It is important to evaluate renal function before starting treatment, as oxytetracycline is excreted mainly through this route. Excessive sun exposure should be avoided, as this medication can cause photosensitivity.
