Indications

Synthroid is indicated for the treatment of hypothyroidism, a condition in which the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormones. It is also used in the management of certain types of goiters and as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of thyroid cancer. Levothyroxine sodium, the active ingredient in Synthroid, works by replacing or supplementing thyroid hormones that the body does not produce in adequate amounts. It is essential that treatment be supervised by a healthcare professional to adjust doses according to the individual needs of the patient.

Composition

Each Synthroid tablet contains 125 mcg of levothyroxine sodium as the active ingredient. Additionally, it contains excipients such as lactose, starch, and magnesium stearate.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to levothyroxine sodium or any component of the product. It should not be used in patients with untreated adrenal disease, acute myocardial infarction, or subacute thyroiditis. Its use should be avoided in those with untreated thyroid disease or hyperthyroidism.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with cardiovascular diseases, hypopituitarism, or intestinal absorption problems. During treatment, it is important to regularly monitor hormone levels and adjust the dose as needed. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before starting treatment.

Storage

Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
