Indications

Risperdal (Risperidone) is indicated for the treatment of psychotic disorders, including schizophrenia, where control of positive and negative symptoms is required. It is also used in the treatment of bipolar disorder, especially in manic and mixed episodes. Its use is approved in pediatric patients for the treatment of behavioral disorders associated with autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Risperidone acts on dopamine and serotonin receptors in the brain, which helps to improve mood and decrease agitation and aggressive behavior.

Composition

Each Risperdal tablet contains 1 mg of risperidone as the active ingredient, as well as excipients that facilitate its formulation and absorption.

Contraindications

Risperdal is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to risperidone or any of the components of the formula. It should not be administered to patients with a history of agranulocytosis or bone marrow depression. It is also contraindicated in patients with Parkinson's disease or Lewy body dementia, due to the increased risk of neurological adverse effects.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised when administering Risperdal to patients with a history of seizures, cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, or those at high risk of developing neuroleptic malignant syndrome. It is important to monitor patients for signs of extrapyramidal side effects, as well as to monitor weight and blood glucose levels during treatment.

Storage

Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place away from direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
