Indications
Provera (medroxyprogesterone) is indicated for the treatment of various conditions related to progesterone deficiency. It is commonly used in the management of menstrual disorders, such as secondary amenorrhea and dysmenorrhea. It is also indicated in hormone replacement therapy to prevent endometrial hyperplasia in postmenopausal women receiving estrogens. Additionally, it is used in the treatment of endometrial cancer and in some cases of breast cancer in selected women. It is important that the use of this medication is supervised by a physician, given that its administration must be individualized according to the needs and health conditions of each patient.
Composition
Each Provera tablet contains 5 mg of medroxyprogesterone as the active ingredient, as well as excipients that facilitate the formulation of the medicine.
Contraindications
Provera is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to medroxyprogesterone or any of the excipients. It should not be used in cases of undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, known or suspected breast cancer, active thromboembolic disease, or severe liver failure. Its use should be evaluated with caution in patients with a history of depression or mental disorders.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering Provera to patients with a history of liver problems, cardiovascular disorders, or thromboembolic diseases. Patients should be monitored during treatment and periodic evaluations should be performed to detect any adverse effects. The possibility of side effects, such as mood changes, and the need to adjust the dose according to the patient's response, should also be considered.
