Indications
Plavix is indicated for the prevention of atherothrombotic events in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS), including non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction, ST-elevation myocardial infarction, and unstable angina. It is also used in patients who have experienced an ischemic stroke, transient ischemic attack, or those with peripheral artery disease. Its use is indicated in combination with acetylsalicylic acid for the prevention of cardiovascular events in patients with a history of myocardial infarction or stroke and in those with stable coronary artery disease.
Composition
Each Plavix tablet contains 75 mg of clopidogrel (as clopidogrel hydrochloride) as the active ingredient, in addition to excipients such as microcrystalline cellulose, corn starch, talc, and magnesium stearate.
Contraindications
Plavix is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to clopidogrel or any excipient in the formula, as well as in those with a history of active pathological bleeding, such as gastrointestinal ulcers or intracranial hemorrhage. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering Plavix to patients at risk of bleeding, such as those with bleeding disorders. It is important to assess liver function before initiating treatment. Likewise, it is recommended to monitor patients who are receiving concomitant treatment with anticoagulants or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), due to the increased risk of bleeding.
