Indications
Piqray (Alpelisib) is indicated for the treatment of adult patients with hormone receptor-positive (HR+) and HER2-negative advanced or metastatic breast cancer, in combination with an aromatase inhibitor, as initial therapy. This medication is indicated for patients whose disease has PIK3CA gene mutations, which can be identified through specific genetic tests. Piqray acts by inhibiting the PI3K signaling pathway, which is crucial for cell growth and proliferation in various malignancies. Treatment efficacy should be periodically evaluated, and patients should be monitored for signs of disease progression or adverse effects.
Composition
Each Piqray tablet contains 150 mg of Alpelisib as the active ingredient. It also contains excipients that facilitate tablet formulation, including lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, among others.
Contraindications
Piqray is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Alpelisib or any of the excipients in the formulation. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe hepatic impairment and those receiving treatment with strong CYP3A4 inducers.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of allergic reactions to other medications, as well as in those undergoing dialysis or with moderate liver disease. Regular blood glucose monitoring is important, as Alpelisib can cause hyperglycemia. Drug interactions should also be considered, so it is essential to inform the doctor about all medications the patient is taking.
Storage
The medication should be stored at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
