Indications
Pepto Bismol Chewable is indicated for the treatment of various gastrointestinal conditions. It is used for the temporary relief of symptoms such as nausea, indigestion, upset stomach, diarrhea, and heartburn. Its action is based on the ability of bismuth subsalicylate to coat the gastric mucosa, protect it from irritation, and aid in fluid absorption. Additionally, it can be useful in the treatment of acute diarrhea and in reducing inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. Medical consultation is recommended for proper diagnosis and treatment.
Composition
Each Pepto Bismol Chewable tablet contains 262 mg of bismuth subsalicylate as the active ingredient. In addition, it contains excipients that facilitate its formulation and administration.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to bismuth subsalicylate or to any component of the formula. Its use is not recommended in patients with gastric ulcers or gastrointestinal bleeding. It should also not be administered to children under 12 years of age without medical supervision, nor to individuals who are receiving anticoagulant treatment or who have severe renal insufficiency.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of asthma or salicylate allergies. It is important to avoid prolonged use of this medication and not to exceed the recommended dose. Before starting treatment, a doctor should be consulted if the patient has persistent or severe symptoms, as these could indicate more serious conditions requiring medical attention.
