Indications
Pentasa (Mesalazine) is indicated for the treatment of active ulcerative colitis and for the prevention of relapse in patients with ulcerative colitis in remission. It is also used in the treatment of Crohn's disease, specifically in cases affecting the large intestine. Mesalazine works by reducing inflammation in the intestine, which is crucial for the management of these conditions. It is important that treatment is carried out under medical supervision, ensuring adequate evaluation and monitoring of the patient.
Composition
Each sachet of Pentasa contains 1 g of mesalazine as the active ingredient. Excipients include: citric acid, sodium carbonate, among others.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to mesalazine or to any of the components of the formula. It should also be avoided in patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to salicylates or sulfonamides.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with a history of kidney disease, as mesalazine may affect kidney function.
