Indications
Orlistat is indicated as an adjunct in weight reduction in obese or overweight patients (body mass index [BMI] ≥ 27 kg/m²) who have obesity-related risk factors, such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, or dyslipidemias. Its use is recommended in combination with a hypocaloric diet and a physical activity program. The medication works by inhibiting fat absorption in the intestine, which contributes to body weight reduction and improves metabolic parameters associated with obesity.
Composition
Each Orlistat capsule contains 60 mg of orlistat as the active ingredient. Excipients: corn starch, talc, gelatin, among others.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to orlistat or any of the excipients in the formula. It should not be used in people with chronic malabsorption or cholestasis syndrome. It is also contraindicated in pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with a history of eating disorders, as well as in those with nutrient absorption problems. Regular medical follow-up is important to assess treatment effectiveness and the possible appearance of adverse effects. Adequate intake of vitamins and minerals is advised due to the possible decrease in the absorption of these nutrients.
Storage
Store in its original container at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
