Indications
Novorapid is a medication indicated for the treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. This medication is used for blood glucose control in patients requiring insulin. Its use is recommended in combination with other oral antidiabetics in type 2 diabetic patients who do not achieve adequate control with these medications alone. It can also be used in specific situations, such as in the management of acute hyperglycemia. Novorapid's rapid onset of action allows its use in situations where administration is close to meals, thus facilitating postprandial glucose control.
Composition
Each mL of Novorapid contains 100 units of insulin aspart (equivalent to 3.5 mg). Excipients include sodium chloride, hydrochloric acid, and water for injection.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to insulin aspart or any of the product's excipients. It is also contraindicated in episodes of severe hypoglycemia and in patients with uncontrolled severe renal or hepatic disease.
Precautions
Care should be taken when using Novorapid in patients with a history of hypoglycemia, as well as in those with conditions that could alter insulin metabolism, such as febrile illness or infections. Close monitoring of blood glucose levels is recommended when initiating or adjusting insulin dosage, as well as in stressful situations. It is important to adjust the dose based on physical activity and food intake.
Storage
Novorapid should be stored in a refrigerator between 2 °C and 8 °C. Do not freeze. Once opened, the vial can be stored at room temperature (up to 30 °C) for a maximum of 28 days. Keep out of reach of children.
