Indications
Micardis is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension in adults. Lowering blood pressure helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular events and strokes. This medication works by blocking angiotensin II receptors, which causes blood vessels to dilate and, consequently, lowers blood pressure.
Additionally, it can be used in patients with heart failure, in combination with other medications, and in patients with type 2 diabetes who have associated kidney damage. It is important that the use of Micardis is supervised by a physician to ensure its efficacy and safety in the patient's treatment.
Composition
Each tablet contains: Telmisartan 40 mg, excipients: lactose monohydrate, corn starch, microcrystalline cellulose, and magnesium stearate.
Contraindications
Micardis is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to telmisartan or any component of the product. It should not be administered during pregnancy and lactation, as well as in patients with bilateral renal artery stenosis or those with a history of angioedema associated with prior treatment with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs).
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with renal impairment, hepatic impairment, or those undergoing diuretic treatment. Monitoring potassium levels and renal function during treatment is advisable. The risk of hypotension should be assessed in dehydrated or hypovolemic patients, as well as in those initiating diuretic treatment.
Storage
Store in its original packaging, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
