Indications
Metamucil is a product indicated for the treatment of occasional constipation and for the relief of symptoms associated with digestive disorders such as diarrhea. Its formulation based on psyllium, a soluble fiber, helps increase stool volume, facilitating its passage through the intestine. In addition, it can be used as a supplement in weight control diets, as it promotes a feeling of fullness. It is also recommended for the treatment of conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome and to improve general intestinal health.
Composition
Metamucil contains psyllium (Plantago ovata) as its active ingredient, which acts as a bulk-forming agent and natural laxative. Each dose provides an adequate amount of fiber to help regulate intestinal transit.
Contraindications
This product is contraindicated in patients with difficulty swallowing, intestinal obstruction, or in those suffering from diseases that require restriction of fiber intake. Its use is not recommended in cases of known allergy to psyllium or any of the product's excipients.
Precautions
Care should be taken when using Metamucil in patients with gastrointestinal diseases, as well as in those with diabetes, due to its carbohydrate content. It is advisable to increase fluid intake while using this product to avoid the risk of intestinal obstruction. Likewise, a doctor should be consulted if symptoms persist or if there is a significant change in bowel habits.
