Indications
Memantine is indicated for the treatment of patients with moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease. This medication acts as a non-competitive NMDA receptor antagonist, which helps regulate the activity of glutamate, a neurotransmitter involved in learning and memory. Memantine has been shown to improve cognitive function and the ability to perform daily activities in patients suffering from this disease. Furthermore, it has been used in the treatment of mixed dementias and other neurodegenerative conditions.
Composition
Each Memantine tablet contains 20 mg of memantine in its formulation. Additionally, it contains excipients that facilitate the absorption and stability of the medication.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to memantine or any of the components of the formula. Its use is not recommended in patients with a history of uncontrolled seizures or in those with severe renal insufficiency.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when using memantine in patients with a history of seizures, cardiovascular diseases, or conditions that may increase the risk of adverse effects. It is important to monitor renal function during treatment, as drug elimination may be affected. Dose adjustment is recommended in cases of moderate renal insufficiency.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
