Indications
Janumet is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise for blood glucose control in adult patients with type 2 diabetes. It is used in patients who do not achieve adequate control with metformin alone or in combination with other oral antidiabetics. This medication can be used as initial treatment in patients with type 2 diabetes, particularly in those with obesity and insulin resistance.
The combination of sitagliptin and metformin acts on different physiological mechanisms to improve glycemic control, decreasing glucose production by the liver and increasing insulin secretion in response to meals.
Composition
Each Janumet tablet contains:
- Sitagliptin (as monohydrate phosphate) 50 mg
- Metformin (as hydrochloride) 850 mg
Contraindications
Janumet is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the components of the formula. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe renal failure, active kidney disease, and hepatic insufficiency. It should not be used in patients with diabetic ketoacidosis or in those with conditions that predispose to lactic acidosis.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with a history of pancreatitis, moderate kidney disease, and in the elderly, due to an increased risk of adverse effects. Renal function and blood glucose control should be monitored regularly.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at temperatures not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
