Indications
Cresemba (isavuconazole) is indicated for the treatment of invasive fungal infections caused by Aspergillus and Mucor species. It is primarily used in patients with prolonged neutropenia, patients with malignant hematological disease, and those who have received solid organ or stem cell transplants. In addition, isavuconazole is indicated for the treatment of mucormycosis in adult patients, providing an effective alternative to other available antifungals.
Composition
Each Cresemba capsule contains 100 mg of isavuconazole as the active ingredient. It also includes excipients such as microcrystalline cellulose, silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, among others.
Contraindications
Cresemba is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to isavuconazole or any component of the formulation. Likewise, it should not be administered in combination with medications that are potent inducers of CYP3A4 enzymes, as they can decrease plasma concentrations of isavuconazole, affecting its efficacy.
Precautions
Caution is advised in patients with hepatic impairment, as dose adjustment may be necessary in these cases. In addition, liver function should be assessed before and during treatment. Patients should be monitored for possible adverse effects, such as hepatotoxicity and allergic reactions. Special care should be taken in patients receiving concomitant medications that may interact with isavuconazole.
