Indications
Zinnat Suspension is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections caused by microorganisms susceptible to cefuroxime. It is used to treat upper respiratory tract infections, such as sinusitis and otitis media; lower respiratory tract infections, such as pneumonia; urinary tract infections; and some skin and soft tissue infections. Cefuroxime acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to the death of the bacteria. It is important to perform a culture and antibiogram before starting treatment to ensure pathogen susceptibility.
Composition
Each 5 ml of suspension contains 125 mg of cefuroxime axetil. Excipients include: sorbitol, citric acid, raspberry flavor, among others. Consult the product label for a complete list of components.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cefuroxime, other beta-lactam antibiotics, or any of the excipients in the formulation. Caution should also be exercised in patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to other antibiotics.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with renal insufficiency or a history of pseudomembranous colitis. During treatment, renal function and the appearance of any adverse reactions should be monitored. Self-medication and prolonged use without medical supervision should be avoided, as this can promote the development of bacterial resistance.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C. Keep in a dry place and out of reach of children. Once the bottle is opened, it is recommended to use the medication within 7 days and discard any unused remainder.
