Indications
Virazide (Vigabatrin) is indicated for the treatment of refractory epilepsy in patients who have not responded adequately to other antiepileptic drugs. It is primarily used in cases of complex partial seizures and generalized tonic-clonic seizures. In addition, it has been shown to be effective in the treatment of spasticity and some behavioral disorders related to epilepsy. It is important that the use of this medication be supervised by a specialized physician, as dose adjustment must be individualized and based on the patient's clinical response.
Composition
Each 100 mL of solution contains 10 g of vigabatrin. Excipients: purified water, hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide.
Contraindications
Virazide is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to vigabatrin or any of the excipients in the formulation. Its use is not recommended in patients with a history of severe depression or psychiatric illness, or in those who are being treated with other antiepileptic drugs that may interact negatively with vigabatrin.
Precautions
Special care should be taken in patients with kidney disease, as the elimination of vigabatrin may be affected. Likewise, periodic monitoring of visual function is recommended, as cases of irreversible vision loss have been reported in patients treated with vigabatrin. Use in pregnant and lactating women should be carefully evaluated by a physician, considering the potential benefits and risks.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
