Indications
Valprastin is indicated as part of a comprehensive treatment for the reduction of elevated total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, in conjunction with an appropriate diet. This medication is also used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with a history of coronary heart disease, as well as in those with diabetes mellitus and other cardiovascular risk factors. Pravastatin acts by inhibiting the HMG-CoA reductase enzyme, which results in a decrease in cholesterol production in the liver and an increase in LDL uptake by hepatic receptors.
Composition
Each Valprastin tablet contains 10 mg of pravastatin and excipients necessary for the product's formulation.
Contraindications
Valprastin is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to pravastatin or any of the formulation components. It is also contraindicated in patients with active liver diseases, including hepatitis and persistent elevation of transaminases. Its use in pregnant and lactating women is contraindicated due to potential risks to the fetus and infant.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of liver disease, excessive alcohol consumption, and in those receiving other medications that may interact with pravastatin. Regular monitoring of transaminases and blood cholesterol levels is important during treatment.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C, in a dry place protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
