Indications
Tiarotec (Thiamazole) is indicated for the treatment of hyperthyroidism, as well as for preoperative preparation of patients undergoing thyroidectomy. This medication works by inhibiting the synthesis of thyroid hormones, resulting in a decrease in the production of these hormones and, therefore, a control of symptoms associated with hyperthyroidism. Tiarotec is recommended for use in patients with Graves' disease and those with diffuse toxic goiter.
Composition
Each Tiarotec tablet contains Thiamazole as the active ingredient. The formulation may include excipients such as starch, talc, and other compounds used for tablet manufacturing.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Thiamazole or any of the excipients in the formula. It should also be avoided in patients with severe liver disease, as well as in those with a history of agranulocytosis or hematological diseases that compromise bone marrow function.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering Tiarotec to patients with a history of liver or kidney disease. Additionally, regular monitoring of thyroid and blood function is recommended during treatment. The use of this medication in pregnant or breastfeeding women should be evaluated by a physician, as it may have implications for the fetus or infant.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature below 30 °C. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight.
