Indications
Thioctacid 600Hr is indicated as an adjunctive treatment in cases of diabetic neuropathy, as well as in disorders associated with glucose metabolism. It is also used in the treatment of liver diseases and as an antioxidant in the management of conditions related to oxidative stress. Thioctic acid acts as a cofactor in energy metabolism and has neuroprotective properties, which makes it useful in improving neuropathic symptoms such as pain, tingling, and weakness in the extremities. This medication can also help improve insulin sensitivity, which is beneficial for patients with insulin resistance.
Composition
Each Thioctacid 600Hr tablet contains 600 mg of thioctic acid as the active ingredient. Additionally, it contains excipients such as microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, and other inactive components that allow for the formulation of the medication.
Contraindications
Thioctacid 600Hr is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to thioctic acid or any of the components of the formulation. Furthermore, its use is not recommended during pregnancy and lactation, except under specific medical indication. Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of severe liver diseases.
Precautions
It is important to monitor diabetic patients, as thioctic acid can affect blood glucose levels. It is recommended to adjust the dose of antidiabetic medications if necessary. Likewise, caution should be exercised in patients with vitamin B12 deficiency, as thioctic acid may interfere with the levels of this vitamin. In case of adverse gastrointestinal symptoms, a doctor should be consulted.
