Indications

Thalidomide is indicated in the treatment of various medical conditions, including multiple myeloma and certain types of leprosy. Its action is based on the inhibition of angiogenesis and its immunomodulatory properties. In multiple myeloma, Thalidomide is used as part of a combined therapeutic regimen, and its use has proven effective in reducing tumor cells and prolonging survival in patients. In lepromatosis, it is used for the management of complications associated with the disease, such as neuropathy and skin lesions. It is essential that treatment be supervised by a healthcare professional.

Composition

Each tablet contains 100 mg of Thalidomide as the active ingredient. Excipients: lactose, corn starch, magnesium stearate, and other excipients.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Thalidomide or any of its excipients. It should not be used in pregnant women or women trying to conceive, due to its teratogenic potential. It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of venous thrombosis or pulmonary embolism.

Precautions

Strict control and periodic monitoring are recommended for patients using Thalidomide, especially those with a history of hematological disorders. It is important to avoid concomitant administration with other medications that may increase the risk of thrombosis. Patients should be informed about possible side effects, which may include drowsiness, dizziness, and constipation. Furthermore, special care should be taken in elderly individuals and those with comorbidities.
