Indications
Synagis (Palivizumab) is indicated for the prophylaxis of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection in infants and children younger than 24 months of age who are at high risk for severe RSV disease. This includes those with a history of prematurity (less than 29 weeks gestation), chronic lung disease of prematurity, or congenital heart disease. Prophylaxis should be considered during the RSV season, which typically occurs from October to March in the Northern Hemisphere.
Composition
Each 1.0 ml of injectable solution contains: Palivizumab 100 mg. Excipients: Sodium chloride, dibasic sodium phosphate, monobasic sodium phosphate, water for injection.
Contraindications
This medicine is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to palivizumab or to any of the excipients in the formulation. It should not be administered to patients who have experienced severe allergic reactions to this medicine in previous applications.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering Synagis to patients with a history of bleeding problems or those receiving anticoagulants. Patients should be monitored for possible adverse reactions during and after administration. It is important to consider the possibility of anaphylactic reactions, although they are rare.
Storage
Store in refrigeration between 2°C and 8°C. Do not freeze. Keep the medicine in its original packaging and out of the reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
