Indications
Prevenar 13V is indicated for the prevention of invasive diseases caused by specific serotypes of Streptococcus pneumoniae in children aged 6 weeks and older, as well as in adults and the elderly. This vaccine is particularly important in high-risk populations, including those with underlying medical conditions that predispose to pneumococcal infections, such as chronic respiratory diseases, heart diseases, diabetes, and immunocompromising conditions. Furthermore, it is recommended for the prevention of pneumonia, acute otitis media, and sinusitis caused by the serotypes included in the vaccine.
Composition
Each 0.5 mL dose contains antigens from 13 serotypes of Streptococcus pneumoniae, in addition to excipients and adjuvants that facilitate the immune response. The exact composition may vary, and it is important to consult the official product leaflet.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated in individuals who have shown hypersensitivity to any component of the vaccine or to previous doses of the same. It should also be avoided in patients with acute febrile illness or moderate to severe acute infection until the resolution of the illness.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in individuals with hematological diseases or coagulation disorders. Vaccination should be evaluated in immunocompromised patients, and it is recommended to consult a doctor before administering the vaccine in these cases.
