Indications
Prazolan (pantoprazole) is indicated for the treatment of various conditions related to acid hypersecretion. This includes therapy for gastroesophageal reflux esophagitis, as well as the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers. It is also used for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori in combination with antibiotics, which contributes to the healing of peptic ulcers. The medication can be useful in the management of conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, where there is excessive production of gastric acid.
Composition
Each Prazolan tablet contains 20 mg of pantoprazole as the active ingredient. Excipients include mannitol, microcrystalline cellulose, and other components that facilitate the formulation and bioavailability of the medication.
Contraindications
The use of Prazolan is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to pantoprazole or to any of the excipients of the formulation. It should also be avoided in cases of severe liver failure and in patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to other proton pump inhibitors.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with a history of liver disease, as pantoprazole is primarily metabolized in the liver. Likewise, it is suggested to monitor patients who require prolonged treatment, due to the risk of vitamin B12 and magnesium deficiencies. It is important to evaluate any new or unusual symptoms in patients on prolonged treatment.
