Indications
Nozacol (Cholestyramine Resin) is indicated for the treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia, especially in patients who have not responded adequately to dietary measures and other treatments. It is also used in the management of cholestasis and in reducing blood cholesterol levels. This medication works by binding bile salts in the intestine, which promotes their excretion and contributes to the decrease in cholesterol levels. It is important that this medication be used under medical supervision and as part of a comprehensive treatment that includes changes in diet and lifestyle.
Composition
Each Nozacol sachet contains cholestyramine resin as the active ingredient, in addition to excipients necessary for its formulation. The exact amount of cholestyramine resin should be consulted in the product leaflet.
Contraindications
Nozacol is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cholestyramine or any of its components. Its use should also be avoided in cases of intestinal obstruction, active pancreatitis, or in patients with uncontrolled hepatic and biliary function disorders.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease, as the use of cholestyramine may alter the absorption of other medications. Likewise, it is suggested to monitor cholesterol levels and adjust the dose as necessary. It is essential for the patient to inform their doctor about any other medication they are taking to avoid interactions.
