Indications

Minirin (desmopressin) is indicated for the treatment of central diabetes insipidus, a condition characterized by the body's inability to concentrate urine, resulting in excessive urine production and extreme thirst. This medication is also used in the management of nocturnal enuresis in children over 5 years of age who experience problems with nocturnal urinary incontinence. Minirin acts as an analogue of antidiuretic hormone, improving water reabsorption in the kidneys and, therefore, decreasing urine production. Additionally, it can be used in the treatment of bleeding disorders, such as von Willebrand disease and hemophilia type A, where an increase in coagulation factor levels is required.

Composition

Each Minirin tablet contains 89 mcg of desmopressin as the active ingredient. It also contains excipients such as lactose, corn starch, microcrystalline cellulose, and magnesium stearate.

Contraindications

Minirin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to desmopressin or any component of the formula. It is also contraindicated in conditions that can lead to hyponatremia, such as severe renal failure or diseases that predispose to fluid retention.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of cardiovascular disease, hypertension, or diseases that may cause fluid retention. Monitoring of blood sodium levels is recommended, especially in elderly patients. The use of this medication must be supervised by a healthcare professional.

Storage

Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius. Keep in a dry place and away from direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
