Indications
Mexapin (Ampicillin) is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections. It is used in the treatment of respiratory tract infections, such as pneumonia and bronchitis, as well as ear, nose, and throat infections. It is also used in urinary tract infections, gastrointestinal infections, and for endocarditis prophylaxis in at-risk patients. This antibiotic works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, resulting in the death of susceptible bacteria.
Composition
Each Mexapin tablet contains 1 g of ampicillin as the active ingredient, in addition to excipients that allow for tablet formulation.
Contraindications
Mexapin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to ampicillin or other beta-lactam antibiotics. Its use should be avoided in individuals with a history of severe allergic or anaphylactic reactions to penicillin. Its use is not recommended for viral infections, such as the flu or common cold.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of asthma, allergic disease, or kidney problems. It is important to assess kidney function before initiating treatment, as ampicillin is primarily excreted by the kidneys. Mexapin administration should be supervised in patients with infectious mononucleosis, as it may cause a skin rash. Liver function tests are recommended for patients who develop symptoms of hepatitis during treatment.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30°C, in a dry place protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
