Indications
Metoprolol is indicated for the treatment of arterial hypertension, as well as in the management of angina pectoris. It is also used in the prevention of myocardial infarction in patients who have had previous cardiac events. Additionally, it is prescribed for the treatment of heart failure and for the control of arrhythmias. The action of metoprolol is based on its ability to block beta-adrenergic receptors in the heart, which reduces heart rate and blood pressure, improving cardiac function in various conditions.
Composition
Each Metoprolol Con tablet contains 100 mg of metoprolol, as well as excipients necessary for the product's formulation. Excipients are inactive substances that aid in the manufacture and stability of the tablet.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with severe bradycardia, second or third-degree heart block, decompensated heart failure, bronchial asthma, or a history of allergic reactions to metoprolol or any of the excipients. Likewise, its use should be evaluated in patients with diabetes mellitus, as it can mask the symptoms of hypoglycemia.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering metoprolol to patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), depression, or those who are receiving concomitant treatments that may interact with metoprolol. Regular monitoring of blood pressure and heart rate is important during treatment.
