Indications

Metoclopramide is indicated for the treatment of nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery. It is also used in the management of gastrointestinal motility disorders, such as diabetic gastroparesis and gastroesophageal reflux. This medication acts as an antiemetic and prokinetic, facilitating gastric emptying and improving intestinal transit. Its use is important to consider in patients requiring effective control of nausea and vomiting symptoms, as well as in those with gastric motility problems who need pharmacological intervention.

Composition

Each 2 ml ampoule contains 10 mg of metoclopramide in injectable solution.

Contraindications

Metoclopramide is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to metoclopramide or any of its excipients. It should not be administered in cases of gastrointestinal hemorrhage, mechanical obstruction, or gastrointestinal perforation. Likewise, it is contraindicated in patients with pheochromocytoma, epilepsy, or those with central nervous system diseases.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised when using metoclopramide in patients with a history of depression, Parkinson's disease, or in those receiving medications that affect the central nervous system. It is advisable to evaluate renal function before starting treatment, as well as to monitor patients during prolonged use of the drug to avoid adverse effects such as tardive dyskinesia.
