Indications

Metformin 500 mg is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, especially in overweight patients, in combination with diet and exercise. It is useful in patients who cannot control their glucose levels with lifestyle changes alone. It can also be used in combination with other oral antidiabetics or insulin to improve glycemic control. Furthermore, its use in preventing diabetes in patients with glucose intolerance has been studied. Its use should be considered in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) to improve ovulation and insulin resistance.

Composition

Each Metformin tablet contains 500 mg of metformin as the active ingredient. Excipients: starch, talc, magnesium stearate, among others.

Contraindications

Metformin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to metformin or any of the excipients in the formulation. It should not be used in patients with severe renal disease, hepatic insufficiency, metabolic acidosis, or diabetic ketoacidosis. It should not be administered in cases of severe dehydration, severe infections, or in the context of surgical procedures requiring prolonged fasting.

Precautions

Regular monitoring of renal function is necessary in patients using metformin. Caution should be exercised in patients who consume alcohol, as it may increase the risk of lactic acidosis. Its use should also be considered with caution in the elderly or those with conditions that may compromise renal function.

Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
