Indications
Mabthera (Rituximab) is indicated for the treatment of various hematological malignancies, including non-Hodgkin lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and rheumatoid arthritis. This medication specifically targets cells that express the CD20 antigen, allowing the immune system to destroy these cells. Additionally, it is used in combination with chemotherapy to improve treatment efficacy in patients with B-cell lymphoma. Rituximab administration may be considered in patients who have shown an insufficient response to previous treatments, as well as in those with disease relapses.
Composition
Each Mabthera vial contains:
- Rituximab: 500 mg
- Excipients: Sodium chloride, acetic acid, sodium acetate, water for injection.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Rituximab or any of the excipients. Its administration is also contraindicated in patients with severe active infections, as well as in those with a history of anaphylactic reactions to blood products or derivatives. Its use during pregnancy and lactation is not recommended unless the benefit outweighs the potential risk.
Precautions
Special caution should be exercised in patients with a history of recurrent infections, heart disease, or those receiving immunosuppressive treatments. Careful monitoring of signs and symptoms of infusion reactions during drug administration is recommended, as well as vigilance for opportunistic infections.
Storage
Store in refrigeration between 2 °C and 8 °C. Do not freeze. Protect from light and keep out of reach of children.
