Indications

Lixiana is indicated for the prevention of venous thromboembolic events in adult patients undergoing hip or knee replacement surgery. It is also used in the treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), as well as in the prevention of recurrence of these conditions. The medicine acts as an anticoagulant, inhibiting the action of factor Xa, which helps reduce the formation of blood clots.

Composition

Each Lixiana tablet contains 60 mg of edoxaban as the active ingredient. In addition, it contains excipients such as lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, crospovidone, and magnesium stearate, among others, which act as bulking agents and formulation facilitators.

Contraindications

This medicine is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to edoxaban or any of the excipients in the formulation. It should not be used in patients with significant active bleeding or with bleeding disorders that increase the risk of hemorrhage. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe liver dysfunction or in those using other anticoagulants, unless under strict medical supervision.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with renal impairment, as edoxaban elimination may be affected. Likewise, monitoring is recommended for patients who are being treated with medicines that may increase the risk of bleeding, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and other anticoagulants. Regular follow-up to assess renal function during treatment is important.

Storage

Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C. Keep out of reach of children and protect from light and moisture.
