Indications
Linzess is indicated for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) in adults. It is also used for the treatment of chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC) in adults. Linaclotide, its active ingredient, works by increasing fluid secretion in the intestine and accelerating intestinal transit, which can help relieve symptoms associated with constipation. Patients should be evaluated to rule out underlying conditions before starting treatment.
Composition
Each Linzess capsule contains 0.290 mg of linaclotide as the active ingredient. Additionally, it includes excipients such as microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, and other inactive components that allow for the formulation of the medication in capsule form.
Contraindications
Linzess is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to linaclotide or any of the excipients in the formula. It should not be administered to patients with intestinal obstruction or a history of intestinal obstruction. It is also contraindicated in pediatric patients under 6 years of age and should be used with caution in elderly adults.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with gastrointestinal diseases that may be complicated by the use of Linzess. Patients with a history of dehydration should be closely monitored. It is important to assess renal and hepatic function before initiating treatment, as well as to follow up during therapy.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 25°C. Keep the medication out of the reach of children and do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
