Indications

Levothyroxine sodium is indicated for the treatment of hypothyroidism, a condition in which the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormones. This medication is used to replace or supplement thyroid hormone production in patients with conditions such as goiter or after removal of the thyroid gland. It is also used in the treatment of some forms of thyroid cancer and in diagnostic tests to evaluate thyroid function. It is essential that levothyroxine treatment be carried out under strict medical supervision, as the dose must be adjusted according to the individual needs of the patient, considering factors such as age, weight, and the presence of other medical conditions.

Composition

Each Levothyroxine sodium tablet contains 100 mcg of levothyroxine sodium as the active ingredient. It also contains excipients such as lactose, starch, and magnesium stearate, which facilitate the formulation of the product.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to levothyroxine sodium or to any of the excipients in the formulation. Its use is not recommended in cases of hyperthyroidism, untreated adrenal disease, or acute myocardial infarction. The use of levothyroxine in these cases can worsen the patient's condition and lead to serious complications.

Precautions

Special care should be taken in patients with pre-existing heart disease, diabetes, or bleeding disorders. Regular medical follow-up is essential to monitor treatment response and adjust the dose if necessary. In addition, the doctor should be informed about any other medications or supplements the patient is taking, as they may interfere with the efficacy of levothyroxine.
