Indications
Lactulax is indicated for the treatment of occasional constipation. Its laxative effect is based on the osmotic action of lactulose, which retains water in the intestine, increasing volume and softening the stool. This facilitates bowel evacuation. It can also be used in patients with hepatic encephalopathy, as it helps reduce ammonia levels in the intestine. Lactulax is suitable for adults and children over 6 years of age. The product should be administered under medical supervision in patients with underlying diseases or those being treated with other medications.
Composition
Each 15 ml of Lactulax contains 10 g of lactulose. Excipients: purified water, anhydrous citric acid, flavorings and preservatives.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to lactulose or any of the excipients. It should not be administered to people with intestinal obstruction or severe gastrointestinal problems, such as intestinal perforation or megacolon.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in diabetic patients, as lactulose can affect glucose levels. Patient monitoring is recommended during treatment, especially in those with kidney or heart disease. In case of persistent diarrhea or abdominal discomfort, a doctor should be consulted to adjust the dose or discontinue treatment.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
