Indications
Lactulax is indicated for the treatment of occasional and chronic constipation. Its mechanism of action is based on the osmotic action of lactulose, which increases the water content in the intestine, thus facilitating evacuation. It is also used in the treatment of hepatic encephalopathy, as it helps reduce the absorption of ammonia in the intestine.
Composition
Each 15 ml of Lactulax contains 10 g of lactulose. Excipients: purified water, citric acid, flavor, and sweetener.
Contraindications
Lactulax is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to lactulose or any of the excipients in the formula. It should not be used in cases of intestinal obstruction, galactosemia, and in patients with intestinal perforation or severe gastrointestinal diseases.
Precautions
It is recommended to use Lactulax with caution in patients with diabetes mellitus, as lactulose can influence blood glucose levels. Likewise, care should be taken in patients with renal insufficiency, as excess lactulose can cause electrolyte imbalances. Regular medical monitoring is suggested during prolonged treatment.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the packaging.
