Indications
Kuryent (lacosamide) is indicated for the treatment of partial epilepsy in adults and adolescents aged 16 years and older. It is used as adjunctive therapy in patients whose seizures have not been adequately controlled with other antiepileptics. Kuryent may be considered as initial treatment in patients who have not received prior medication. Its mechanism of action is related to the modulation of neuronal activity, which helps stabilize the threshold of neuronal excitability and reduce the frequency of epileptic seizures.
Composition
Each Kuryent tablet contains 50 mg of lacosamide as the active ingredient. Excipients include: starch, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, and silicon dioxide.
Contraindications
The use of Kuryent is not recommended in patients with known hypersensitivity to lacosamide or any of the excipients in the formula. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe heart failure and in those with second or third-degree atrioventricular block, unless an implanted pacemaker is present.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering Kuryent to patients with a history of heart disease, as it may cause prolongation of the PR interval on the electrocardiogram. It is important to monitor liver and kidney function in patients receiving prolonged treatment. If adverse reactions occur, the possibility of discontinuing treatment should be considered.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
