Indications
Kuryent (lacosamide) is indicated for the treatment of epilepsy in adults and adolescents 16 years of age and older. It is used as adjunctive therapy in patients suffering from partial-onset seizures, with or without secondary generalization. Additionally, it can be used in the treatment of myoclonic seizures in patients with juvenile myoclonic epilepsy. The efficacy of lacosamide has been evaluated in controlled clinical trials, showing a significant reduction in seizure frequency in treated patients compared to placebo.
Composition
Each Kuryent tablet contains 100 mg of lacosamide as the active ingredient. Excipients include: microcrystalline cellulose, starch, magnesium stearate, and other inactive components that facilitate the formulation of the medication.
Contraindications
Kuryent is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to lacosamide or any of the excipients in the formula. Its use is not recommended in patients with severe heart failure or second- or third-degree heart block, unless a pacemaker is used.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of heart problems, such as arrhythmias, and in those taking other medications that may affect heart function. It is important to adjust the dose in patients with moderate or severe renal impairment. Patients should be monitored during treatment for any signs of adverse reactions.
Storage
Store Kuryent in its original container, at a controlled temperature between 15 and 30 °C. Keep the medication out of the reach of children and do not use the product after the expiration date indicated on the package.
