Indications

Glucophage XR is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adult patients, especially those who are overweight. This medication is used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan that includes diet and exercise. Additionally, it can be used in combination with other oral antidiabetics or with insulin, always under medical supervision. Metformin helps control blood glucose levels, improving insulin sensitivity and decreasing glucose production in the liver.

Composition

Each Glucophage XR tablet contains 500 mg of metformin as the active ingredient. It also includes excipients such as microcrystalline cellulose, hypromellose, and other agents that facilitate its formulation and absorption.

Contraindications

Glucophage XR is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to metformin or any of the components of the formula. It should not be administered to patients with severe renal failure, metabolic acidosis, or conditions that may predispose to lactic acidosis. It is also contraindicated in cases of dehydration, severe infections, and in situations where a reduction in renal function is required.

Precautions

Caution is recommended when administering Glucophage XR to patients with cardiovascular diseases, liver problems, or conditions affecting kidney function. It is important to periodically monitor kidney function during treatment. Likewise, care should be taken in patients who consume alcohol, as it may increase the risk of lactic acidosis. Before starting treatment, the patient's complete medical history should be discussed with the doctor.

Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
