Indications
Glucophage (metformin) is indicated in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults and children over 10 years of age. It is used as monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetic agents or insulin when diet and exercise fail to achieve adequate blood glucose control. It can also be used in overweight patients with type 2 diabetes, with the aim of improving glycemic control and contributing to weight reduction. It has also been indicated in the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), helping to restore ovulation and regulate menstrual cycles.
Composition
Each Glucophage tablet contains 500 mg of metformin as metformin hydrochloride, as well as excipients that facilitate its formulation and administration.
Contraindications
Glucophage is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to metformin or to any of the excipients in the formulation. It should not be administered in cases of severe renal insufficiency (GFR < 30 mL/min), hepatic insufficiency, hypoxic conditions, dehydration, or severe infections. Furthermore, it is contraindicated in patients with a history of lactic acidosis or in those who are to undergo radiological procedures involving the use of iodinated contrast.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with renal or hepatic dysfunction, as well as in those at risk of dehydration. It is important to monitor renal function periodically during treatment. Metformin administration should be temporarily interrupted before surgical or radiological procedures with iodinated contrast. In addition, it is suggested to adjust the dose in case of changes in the patient's diet or level of physical activity.

Store at room temperature, between 15 °C and 30 °C, in a dry place. Keep out of reach of children.
