Indications
Flumedil (glipizide) is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. It is used as adjunctive therapy to diet and exercise in patients with hyperglycemia who do not achieve adequate control with non-pharmacological measures. This medication works by stimulating insulin secretion from the pancreas, which helps reduce blood glucose levels. Flumedil can be used alone or in combination with other oral antidiabetics or insulin, depending on medical evaluation.
Composition
Each Flumedil tablet contains 10 mg of glipizide as the active ingredient. Additionally, it contains excipients such as starch, talc, and other additives that facilitate the formulation and stability of the product.
Contraindications
Flumedil is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to glipizide or any of the excipients in the formula. It is also contraindicated in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus, diabetic ketoacidosis, and in those with severe liver or kidney diseases that affect drug elimination. It should not be administered during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless strictly necessary and under medical supervision.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with a history of cardiovascular disease, hepatic or renal dysfunction. It is important to regularly monitor blood glucose levels to adjust the dose as needed and avoid episodes of hypoglycemia. Patients should be informed about the symptoms of hypoglycemia and how to proceed if they occur.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use the product after the expiration date indicated on the packaging.
