Indications

Escolam is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorders in adults. It is also effective in the treatment of generalized anxiety disorders, panic disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and social anxiety disorders. Its primary action is based on the selective inhibition of serotonin reuptake, which contributes to an improved mood and reduced anxiety. The benefits of treatment can be observed within several weeks of continuous use. Dosage should be adjusted according to the patient's clinical response and tolerance to the medication.

Composition

Each Escolam tablet contains 10 mg of escitalopram as the active ingredient. Excipients include lactose monohydrate, starch, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, among others.

Contraindications

Escolam is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to escitalopram or any of the excipients. Its use is not recommended in combination with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or in patients with a history of serotonin syndrome. It is also contraindicated in pregnant or breastfeeding women, unless deemed essential by the physician.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised when administering Escolam to patients with a history of manic disorders, seizures, or liver or kidney problems. It is important to monitor for the emergence of suicidal thoughts, especially when initiating treatment or adjusting the dose. Patients should be informed about possible adverse effects, such as drowsiness, dizziness, and changes in appetite.

Storage

Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place away from light. Keep out of reach of children and do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
