Indications
Emla Patch is indicated for local anesthesia in minor procedures, such as catheter insertion, venipuncture, and other procedures requiring a temporary reduction in skin sensitivity. The patch is especially useful in pediatric and adult patients who require analgesia prior to procedures such as vaccination or blood draws. It is recommended to apply the patch approximately 1 to 2 hours before the procedure to achieve the desired effect. In addition, it can be used in skin preparation for administering injections, as well as in the treatment of superficial skin lesions that require local anesthesia.
Composition
Each patch contains Lidocaine 25 mg and Prilocaine 25 mg as active ingredients. It also contains excipients that allow for proper adhesion and release of the drugs into the skin.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the formula's components. Likewise, it should not be applied to areas with open wounds, infections, or dermatitis. Do not use in patients with coagulation disorders or during pregnancy and lactation without medical supervision.
Precautions
Special care should be taken in patients with a history of seizures, heart problems, or those undergoing treatment with antiarrhythmic drugs. It is important not to exceed the recommended application time, as it may increase the risk of systemic toxicity from local anesthetics. Avoid contact of the patch with eyes and mucous membranes.
Storage
Store at room temperature, in a cool, dry place, protected from light and out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date indicated on the packaging.
