Indications
Elidel (pimecrolimus) is indicated for the treatment of atopic dermatitis in adult and pediatric patients older than 2 years. This medication is a calcineurin inhibitor that acts topically to reduce inflammation and itching associated with this skin condition. Its use is recommended for acute episodes and in the management of chronic atopic dermatitis, especially in cases where the use of topical corticosteroids is to be avoided. Elidel can be used in sensitive skin areas, such as the face and neck, where other treatments may be contraindicated.
Composition
Each gram of cream contains 10 mg of pimecrolimus, as well as excipients that facilitate its formulation and skin application.
Contraindications
Elidel is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to pimecrolimus or any of the excipients in the formulation. Its use is not recommended in active viral skin infections, such as chickenpox or herpes simplex, as well as in cases of dermatitis with bacterial or fungal superinfection.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when applying Elidel to areas with active skin infections. Likewise, excessive sun exposure should be avoided in treated areas. Its use is not recommended in children under 2 years of age without medical supervision. Contact with eyes and mucous membranes should be avoided.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at room temperature, out of reach of children. Do not expose to temperatures above 30°C. Do not use after the expiry date indicated on the packaging.
