Indications

Dexivant is indicated for the treatment of various conditions related to gastric hyperacidity. This medication is used in the management of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), including erosive esophagitis associated with this condition. It is also indicated for the long-term treatment of GERD in patients who have been previously treated. Dexivant works by inhibiting the proton pump in the parietal cells of the stomach, resulting in a decrease in gastric acid production. This effect allows for the healing of lesions in the esophagus and offers symptomatic relief to those patients suffering from chronic heartburn.

Composition

Each Dexivant capsule contains 60 mg of dexlansoprazole as an active ingredient, in addition to excipients necessary for the formulation of the medication.

Contraindications

Dexivant is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to dexlansoprazole or any of the components of the formula. It should not be administered to patients with a history of severe reactions to other proton pump inhibitors.

Precautions

Caution is recommended in patients with a history of liver disease, as well as in those who are on concomitant treatment with medications that may interact with dexlansoprazole. Long-term use of proton pump inhibitors may be associated with an increased risk of gastrointestinal infections and nutritional deficiencies, so long-term treatment should be evaluated.
