Indications
Daclafin is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea. It is also used in the management of dyspepsia, gastritis, and other gastrointestinal disorders. Its action is based on bismuth subsalicylate's ability to coat the gastric mucosa and relieve irritation, as well as its antimicrobial effect which contributes to the reduction of pathogenic flora in the intestine. This medication can be useful in the management of symptoms related to infectious gastroenteritis and traveler's diarrhea. Furthermore, it can help protect the intestinal mucosa, promoting the healing of lesions and ulcerations.
Composition
Each 15 ml of Daclafin contains 262.5 mg of bismuth subsalicylate, as well as excipients necessary for the product's formulation.
Contraindications
Daclafin should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to bismuth subsalicylate or to any of the formulation components. It is contraindicated in individuals with a history of active peptic ulcer, gastrointestinal bleeding, as well as in those with severe renal failure.
Precautions
It is recommended to use this medication with caution in patients with a history of kidney disease, as well as in those taking other medications that may affect kidney function. It is important to monitor for signs of gastrointestinal bleeding, especially in older patients. The use of Daclafin in children under 12 years of age without medical supervision is not recommended.
