Indications
Carnotprim is indicated for the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders requiring a prokinetic and antiemetic action. It is used in the management of nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery. It is also used in the treatment of gastric emptying disorders, such as gastroparesis, and in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux. Its use may be considered in situations of postoperative vomiting and in cases of migraine where gastrointestinal symptoms are prominent. Metoclopramide works by blocking dopamine receptors, which contributes to the reduction of nausea and increased intestinal motility.
Composition
Each Carnotprim ampoule contains 10 mg of metoclopramide in a 2 ml volume. Excipients: water for injection, sodium chloride, hydrochloric acid, among others.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to metoclopramide or any of the excipients. It should not be administered to individuals with intestinal obstruction, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, or perforation, as well as those with pheochromocytoma. It is also contraindicated in patients with Parkinson's disease and in those taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of depression, as well as in those with seizure disorders. Prolonged use of metoclopramide may be associated with the development of tardive dyskinesia. Medical follow-up is recommended for treatments exceeding three months. Its use during pregnancy and lactation is not recommended unless strictly necessary.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
